– September 2019.
How old will you be by 2030? What kind of a world do you want to be living in?
From 1 January 2016, the world will embark on a new challenge: to achieve 17 goals which aim to end extreme poverty, fight inequality and injustice and address climate change by 2030.
These goals are called the Sustainable Development Goals (or the Global Goals). They build on the achievements of the Millennium Development Goals, which mobilised the world to work together to halve the number of people living in extreme poverty.
We all have a role to play in seeing these goals achieved for a just world without poverty, where every person can have their human rights fulfilled.
Your school can join this movement by encouraging Australia’s leaders to be part of achieving the Global Goals.
Oxfam Australia and UNICEF Australia have teamed up to create an education resource, where school students can learn about the Global Goals and then write to their MP and tell them what these goals mean for them and the world they want to grow up in and inherit.
The activity and resources are suitable for Primary and Secondary students and are linked to the Australian Curriculum.
It’s really easy to get involved – simply:
• Download the Global Goals School Resource kit to teach your students about the Global Goals.
• Students write letters or messages to their MPs to share their vision for 2030 and how the Global Goals will help achieve the world they want.
