In rural areas of Timor-Leste, women have limited opportunities to earn a living. Ilda and her husband run a small kiosk and earn money picking and selling fruit to neighbouring villages.

Together, they’ve joined a local savings group ROMANSA to save money for livestock, crops and to improve their house.

The savings group has given Ilda the confidence to manage her own money. She’s proud to be able to provide for her family and earn a living separate to her husband.

“The money, the amount that belongs to him [husband], that’s his. The amount that belongs to me, is mine.
We each work for our own money.”

Now that both Ilda and her husband are earning a living, they’re able to build a better future for their family.
