South Asian flood

In July of 2019 deadly floods and landslides across Bangladesh, India and Nepal forced millions of people from their homes with many people sadly losing their lives.

Oxfam’s work

Oxfam responded in South Asia by supporting more than 360,000 people with food, clean drinking water, emergency shelter, toilets and hygiene kits.

Some examples of our work include:

  • Along with lifesaving essentials, Oxfam installed a water treatment plant in Gaibandha, Northern Bangladesh that will provided water to 65,000 people, and set up 70 toilets for people who have been forced from their homes.
  • In Assam, India, we worked with local partners to distribute hygiene kits.
  • In Nepal, with local partners we were able to reach almost 2,000 households with relief materials.
