Oxfam Summer: Falls Festival, Lorne

The Oxfam Summer Team recently saw in the New Year at Lorne’s Falls Festival with our enthusiastic campaigners educating festival goers about the impacts of climate change and what they could do to make a difference. Bringing a piece of the pacific to the festival, the Oxfam tent had palm trees, fish and sign posts warning of rising sea levels.

By creatively using updated cricket scores, the latest Oxfam weather reports and free cold green cordial and much needed sunscreen, our team of canny campaigners made people feel at home before persuading them to sign a postcard to the Government, have their photo taken and discuss what they thought about climate change and the impacts of climate change in the Pacific.

As New Years Eve approached, people were urged to make their new year’s resolution to care more about climate change as with 2010 ending, the need for action on climate change was more urgent than ever. Midnight came and down at the Valley Stage, Joan Jet and the Blackhearts saw in the big countdown (better late than never!) and the Oxfam Team celebrated the start of 2011 as the cool change came in.

A happy new year to everyone and a big thank you to all the fantastic summer campaigners; we couldn’t have done it without you. See you at the next festival and keep your eyes peeled for the Oxfam Summer team, coming to a festival near you!
