A year after the devastating earthquake that rocked Haiti on 12 January 2010, 80% of Haitians still lack any formal employment. Without jobs, people cannot feed their families. The process of recovery and rebuilding cannot begin.
That’s why, from the very beginning, our earthquake response work in Haiti has included job creation. We’re hiring people to work on short-term projects removing rubble and doing other urgent recovery work, and we’re supporting local business owners – the lifeblood of the Haitian economy – to get back on their feet.
