Keep our neighbours safe from hunger, thirst and disease

Extreme weather in Papua New Guinea (PNG) has affected nearly three million people.

Recently, a super-charged weather phenomenon that alters weather patterns globally, known as El Niño has caused drought across PNG. With the drought came hunger, thirst and disease. At the time, PNG was the worst affected country by El Niño in the Pacific region.

Though El Niño and drought have now passed, it can take months before families can access food and income from their harvests. Even then, it’s not enough.

Longer term crop and drought adaptation training is needed so that families have better survival skills during extreme weather conditions.
